Who Am I?
I am a Portland, Oregon based Certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, wife, and mom of 3 amazing spirited grown sons. In addition to my NTA certification, I have advanced training in functional nutrition and clinical testing with Restorative Wellness Solutions (Level 3).
Additional credentials include a certification from Epidemic Answers as an Epidemic Answers Health Coach, a program specific to empowering the families and caregivers of children with chronic conditions and I am a Certified GAPS Practitioner.
A lifetime learner, I am currently enrolled in the BioIndividual Nutrition Institute Therapeutic Diets and the Nourishing Hope for KIDS Pediatric Training Program.
As a longtime advocate of safer personal and body care products, I am proud to represent Beautycounter, a company whose mission is to create high performing, safer personal care products for the entire family while working with legislators to get harmful chemicals out of ALL personal and home care products in the U.S.
When I am not working, I enjoy running, skiing, hiking, reading, spending time with my family & friends and connecting with my community.
My oldest sons are a college grads – happily living and working in other states and the youngest one is in college. My passion to help others is driven by the incredible results that therapeutic nutrition has played in my own life, that of my family’s, and the countless others that I have been privileged and honored to help.
Before my career in nutrition, my education was in computer and electronic technology and program management. I worked for many years in the defense industry as a technical specialist, a technical writer, and in project management.
While a stay-at-home mom for a number of years, I contributed my diverse skills to community service pursuits such as: teaching Sunday School and art literacy, co-leading jog-a-thons, serving on Parent-Teacher boards, and being a co-volunteer coordinator for the counseling department at a local high school.
I’ve incorporated nurturing my mind, body, and spirit into my life as long as I can remember. When I was barely 20, I spent my evening and weekends working as a fitness instructor, later after having my first son, I became a certified race-walk coach. My enthusiasm landed me a position as the director of marketing for a corporate wellness company and in later years, while seeking stress reduction, I studied Reiki and earned Reiki Master Level/Teacher status which I mostly use as “self-guided meditation.”
I can honestly say that I’ve tried just about every nutrition and lifestyle approach out there. I always stayed on top of what I was supposed to do: I exercised regularly, rejected junk foods in general, and bought mostly organic food. I was doing everything “right” and was okay for quite a while-until I wasn’t.
I set out to find the answers to the questions that haunted me for years, not just for myself, but for my family too. As my wellness approach evolved and I discovered what truly works to restore and maintain health and THRIVE. This transformation inspired to return to school to learn more.
I studied holistic nutrition and earned my Nutritional Therapy Practitioner certification from the Nutritional Therapy Association. Combing my nutritional education with my talents in management, marketing, fitness, writing, teaching, and Reiki — I launched Nourishing Excellence Nutritional Therapy. Nourishing Excellence is dedicated to empowering others to obtain optimal health too.
In addition to my private practice, I am on staff as a consulting nutritional therapist, content developer, and the community development lead for Diane Sanfilippo, The New York Times best selling author of Practical Paleo and The 21-Day Sugar Detox. In the last year, I’ve been honored to add the title of Program Manager as I helped develop and now manage The 21-Day Sugar Detox Coaches Program. With marketing and motivation running through my veins, and a background in Program Management and Corporate Wellness, it’s a great privilege to mentor our fabulous team of coaches.
My past consulting clients include Hero, a company focused on celebrating, inspiring, and fueling young athletes to achieve their full potential. This was especially exciting for me since my passion for nutrition is rooted in my experience helping my sons properly fuel for athletic performance. From 2016 – 2017, I joined Julie Matthews and the staff of Nourishing Hope as the community development manager which was an incredible honor as Nourishing Hope’s mission is to inform and empower families and clinicians to be effective at nutrition and diet intervention and help improve the health and well being of those with autism.
My holistic education continues daily. I regularly attend local and distant workshops, classes, and training programs – staying on top of the latest developments in nutrition and human health.
