I love bone broth! Keep reading to find out why but also, please read my Broth Bar Adventure on the Gluten Free Portland blog and check out all the helpful information that website has to offer!

As a nutritional therapist, I love bone broth for it’s delicious flavor AND it’s amazing healing properties! It’s a must for my clients that need to IMG_6303improve their gut health (which, because ALL disease begins in the gut, it pretty much all of them!). Additionally, it’s a great anti-aging elixir!

To summarize, here’s just a few potential benefits of Bone Broth:

  • Improved skin, including cellulite!
  • Improved joint health
  • Improved immunity
  • Improved gut health
  • Reduced inflammation

My family is pretty much never out of bone broth. We buy whole pasture raised chickens regularly and I save up the bones in my freezer until I have enough for a giant batch. I make it using a recipe similar to the one below by Diane Sanfilippo (I am part of Diane’s staff), and freeze it in 2 cups mason jars. I use it daily for many purposes:

  • Sip with some added cultured butter and my favorite spice blend: Primal Palate Organic Adobo Seasoning.
[Tastes like the best chicken soup you’ve ever had!]
  • My family’s weekly batch of soup for packed lunches
  • My son’s wrestling fuel (perfect fuel for an athlete – easy to digest for those day long tournaments!)
  • Sauces
  • Braising meat
  • Sautéing veggies
  • In place of water for rice

There are so many ways to use this amazing food!

But even still, I LOVE to visit Broth Bar in Portland! Since I mostly only make chicken and beef broth, and once or twice a year, turkey broth, I like to try the other broths, such as lamb, bison, and pork.  Broth Bar has many options, plus, amazing add-ins and lots of delicious whole food goodies you can leave with, including tubs of bone broth (I did this for Thanksgiving, I got turkey broth for my gravy since I won’t really have turkey broth until AFTER cooking the turkey – it was the best gravy I ever made)!

If you are not in Portland, you can order from Salt, Fire, & Time and have it shipped! Additionally, there are other options, here are a few I know about but there are more, and maybe some in your area!

Hope to see you at Broth Bar! Cheers!
